Field Trip to Farmington Plantation

Tidbits on the Farmington Plantation: Our field trip to the Farmington Plantation in Louisville centered around the Speed family and their relationship with Abraham Lincoln before and during his presidency. A Speed son, Joshua Speed, once held a partnership in a law office with Abe Lincoln, this established the Speed family's relationship with Lincoln. President Lincoln came to stay at with the Speeds at their Farmington Plantation for a three week period before his presidency. Another of the Speed sons later served with President Lincoln as the Attorney General. The Farmington Plantation's primary crop was hemp.

Our tour of the plantation was just a part of an amazing snow-filled day with friends in our homeschool group, making cornhusk dolls with the kids, lunch at Buckhead and dessert at Krispy Kreme...
